Overshirt Sewing Pattern – Dexter

Super simple pattern to follow, great for beginners.

Cute and simple. The collar instructions are bit missing, but super cute.

Pattern really easy to follow and comes with a great video to follow too!

Easy pattern to sew, would not recommend to beginners. The instructions were easy enough for me to follow because I understand the basic construction of a button-up shirt… however, the instructions are first in Spanish, and translated in English, but the translation didn’t always transfer very well. While the instructions say to use the you tube link provided to better understand the pattern pictures, the video is in Spanish and the pattern pictures are directly from the you tube video. I ended up modifying my pattern quite a bit and following instructions from a men’s button-up pattern to get the job done. Very happy with how my shirt turned out.

This shirt gave me a headache. It is truly an oversized shirt. I’m usually a large in shirts and I was able to do a small. I used satin material as well. I asked the seller for assistance because I didn’t understand the instructions and it threw me off with having Spanish instructions first. The instructions made it hard to read because of that and I got frustrated. The seller did not seem eager to help when I asked. So I figured it out all on my own. Granted I am happy with the results but I don’t think I will use this seller again. I also did a short sleeve instead of long sleeve since I was scared the arms will be extremely too big as well.

The pattern is beautifully designed, and I’m enjoying the process of making it! I had a few challenges understanding some parts of the instructions, but with some adjustments and patience, it’s coming together nicely. I’m working on it at my own pace, so it’s not finished yet, but so far, I love how it’s turning out. Looking forward to the final result.

Great pattern with excellent instructions. I used a projector with the A0 files, so can’t speak to the ease of taping together. But the file worked well on the projector! The instructions are well done and I appreciated the side by side translation into English.
I do wish she had written out the intended positive ease. I made the size Large as I measure 42” Bust with 34” waist. The measurement range for the Large is even smaller than that, but figured I was good since it’s “oversized”. It was REALLY big. I Ended up sewing the shoulders and insetting the sleeves first so I could work out how much needed to be taken out of the side/sleeve seams to get the fit I was after. Took off 2.5” from cuff graded into 1.5 at armpit and side seam. Though the natural linen doesn’t have the same drape. Will make again!
